Pell Grant for Bible College

The Federal Pell Grant is need-based, does not have to be repaid, and is awarded directly from your FAFSA results. For an undergraduate Bible college student, it is usually the first and largest piece of the package — the maximum was $7,395 for the 2024-25 award year, set annually by Congress.

One requirement decides everything else: the school has to be Title IV eligible. That is a legal status granted through recognized accreditation, not a claim a school can make about itself.

Who qualifies for Pell at a Bible college

• You are an undergraduate without a prior bachelor's degree.
• You are a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
• You have a high school diploma, GED or recognized homeschool completion.
• You demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA.
• Your school participates in federal student aid.

How the award amount is decided

Three inputs set your number: your Student Aid Index from the FAFSA, the school's published cost of attendance, and your enrollment intensity. A part-time student receives a proportionally smaller award, which is why part-time ministry students often see a figure well below the headline maximum.

Pell is also portable. If you transfer from a community college into an accredited Bible college, the grant follows you, subject to the lifetime eligibility limit of roughly six years of full-time study.

Which Bible colleges can award Pell

If Pell is not available to you
