Best Pentecostal & charismatic Bible colleges

Thirteen Assemblies of God, Church of God, Foursquare and independent charismatic institutions compared — with the credentialing pathway each denomination actually uses.

Pentecostal higher education is built differently from Baptist or Reformed education. Because the Assemblies of God and Church of God credential ministers through a course of study rather than a degree requirement, their colleges compete on ministry practicum, placement and campus culture rather than on academic gatekeeping.

That has two consequences. Accredited Pentecostal universities are unusually strong in worship arts, missions and practical ministry — and the unaccredited edge of the movement, especially independent "supernatural ministry" schools, is unusually large. Verify accreditation before you enroll.

Assemblies of God schools

The AG endorses a national network rather than running a single flagship. Evangel University in Springfield is the national university and shares a campus with the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, making it the cleanest undergraduate-to-MDiv path. Southeastern University in Lakeland is the largest by enrollment with the widest program catalog. Vanguard, Northwest, North Central and SAGU serve their regions with strong ministry and worship programs.

For credentialing without residential study, Global University runs the Berean School of the Bible, the standard distance route to AG ministerial credentials.

Church of God schools

Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee is the denominational undergraduate flagship and one of the best values in Christian higher education at roughly $21,000 published tuition. Pentecostal Theological Seminary, across town, provides ATS-accredited graduate work at about $11,000 per year. See our Tennessee guide for the wider cluster.

Charismatic and independent schools

Oral Roberts University is the largest interdenominational charismatic university and has the widest international online footprint. Regent University's divinity school serves charismatic and renewal-movement students at graduate level, mostly online. Life Pacific University is the Foursquare Church's school.

Independent ministry schools attached to large charismatic churches — supernatural ministry schools, revival academies, and similar programs — are formative experiences but are generally unaccredited. Their credits do not transfer and their students cannot receive federal aid.

How to choose

  1. Check whether your fellowship endorses the school. AG and COG credentialing is smoother from an endorsed institution.
  2. Decide degree vs. credential. If you only need AG credentials, Berean coursework costs a fraction of a residential degree. If you want portability, take the accredited degree.
  3. Weigh practicum quality. These schools' real differentiator is placement into local churches during study. Ask how many hours of supervised ministry are required.
  4. Compare net price. Published tuition at Vanguard and Northwest looks high; actual paid price after institutional aid is often close to Lee's.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Pentecostal Bible college?
Evangel University and its co-located Assemblies of God Theological Seminary form the strongest package for AG students, while Southeastern University is the largest and most program-diverse. Lee University offers the best value at roughly $21,000 per year, and Oral Roberts University has the widest interdenominational charismatic reach.
Do you need a degree to be credentialed with the Assemblies of God?
No. The Assemblies of God credentials ministers through a course-of-study pathway rather than a degree requirement — most commonly the Berean School of the Bible through Global University, completed alongside ministry. A degree from an AG endorsed school satisfies the coursework and is preferred for lead pastor roles, but it is not mandatory.
What are the Assemblies of God endorsed colleges?
The AG endorses a network of institutions including Evangel University, Southeastern University, Vanguard University, Northwest University, North Central University, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Trinity Bible College, University of Valley Forge and Global University, plus the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary for graduate work.
Are Pentecostal Bible colleges accredited?
The major denominational schools are, holding regional accreditation from HLC, SACSCOC, WSCUC or NWCCU, with ATS accreditation at the graduate seminaries. Many independent charismatic ministry schools and supernatural-ministry training centers are not accredited, which means no federal aid and no transferable credit.
Can you study Pentecostal theology online?
Yes. Global University offers fully distance AG programs, Southeastern University and Southwestern Assemblies of God University run large online divisions, Regent University's divinity school is largely online, and Oral Roberts University serves students in more than 100 countries online.
