Oregon punches far above its weight in theological education. Portland alone holds three graduate schools — Western Seminary, Multnomah Biblical Seminary, and Portland Seminary — while Multnomah, Corban, George Fox, and Bushnell cover undergraduate Bible study from Portland to Eugene, and Mount Angel Abbey has formed Catholic priests for the West since 1889. This guide profiles 14 Oregon institutions with accreditation, tuition, formats, and state aid.
How this guide is organized
Oregon's Bible schools fall into four groups:
Dedicated Bible colleges — Multnomah University and Portland Bible College, where Scripture is the core of the curriculum rather than one major among many.
Christian universities with ministry majors — Corban, George Fox, Bushnell, and Warner Pacific.
Graduate seminaries — Western Seminary, Multnomah Biblical Seminary, Portland Seminary, and Mount Angel.
Catholic institutions — Mount Angel Seminary and the University of Portland.
Oregon also has church-run ministry schools and internship programs that award certificates rather than degrees. Read our accreditation guide before enrolling anywhere that does not appear in a federal accreditation database.
Bible colleges and Christian universities in Oregon (undergraduate)
Undergraduate options cluster along the I-5 corridor between Portland and Eugene. Multnomah is the only school that requires a full Bible core of every student; the others offer ministry and biblical studies majors inside a broader liberal-arts or professional curriculum.

Founded in 1936 as Multnomah School of the Bible, it is the only school in the state where a full biblical studies core is required of every undergraduate regardless of major, and it pairs that with a seminary on the same campus so students can move from a bachelor's to an M.Div. without relocating.
Ideal for: Students who want Bible at the center of an accredited degree, Portland-area ministry workers, and anyone planning to continue into seminary.
Bachelor's degrees in Biblical Studies, Ministry, Youth Ministry, Worship Arts, and Intercultural Studies, plus graduate degrees in Ministry, Education, Business, and Counseling through Corban's School of Ministry.

Yes — online and evening adult degree programs
Tuition
Among the lowest published private tuition in Oregon, typically in the $20,000s before aid.

Online
Limited — primarily in-person cohort training
Tuition

Bachelor's and master's degrees in Theology, plus pastoral ministry coursework and Catholic formation programs.
Online

Oregon region by region
Portland metro
Portland is the theological center of the Pacific Northwest. Multnomah University and its seminary sit in northeast Portland, Western Seminary on the east side, Portland Seminary maintains a Portland presence alongside Newberg, Warner Pacific occupies Mount Tabor, the University of Portland sits on the North Portland bluff, and Portland Bible College trains through City Bible Church. Ministry education here is shaped by one of the least churched large metros in the country, so cross-cultural, urban, and apologetics emphases run through nearly every program.
Willamette Valley — Newberg, Salem, and Mount Angel
George Fox anchors Newberg, Corban sits above Salem, and Mount Angel Abbey's hilltop seminary in Saint Benedict serves Catholic dioceses across the West. All three are within an hour of Portland, which lets students combine a residential campus with metro internships.
Eugene and southern Oregon
Bushnell University in Eugene is the main option south of Salem, adjacent to the University of Oregon. Students in Medford, Bend, and the coast typically study online through Corban, Western, or Multnomah, or commute to Eugene.
Eastern Oregon
There are no Bible colleges east of the Cascades in Oregon. Students in Bend, Pendleton, and Ontario usually enroll online or cross into Idaho for Boise Bible College. Our online Bible degree hub covers accredited distance programs that serve rural Oregon well.
How to choose a Bible school in Oregon
1. Accreditation
Institutional accreditation (NWCCU). The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accredits Multnomah, Corban, George Fox, Bushnell, Warner Pacific, the University of Portland, Western Seminary, and Mount Angel. Credits from these schools transfer most easily.
ATS accreditation. Western Seminary, Portland Seminary, and Mount Angel Seminary hold accreditation from the Association of Theological Schools. If you need an M.Div. for military or hospital chaplaincy endorsement, or for admission to a research doctorate, confirm ATS status directly.
Unaccredited church schools. Portland Bible College and similar church-based programs can be excellent practical training but do not carry recognized accreditation, so credits generally will not transfer and federal aid does not apply. Confirm authorization with the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission.
Oregon's schools cover a wide theological range. Multnomah and Western are conservative evangelical and complementarian in much of their teaching, Corban is Baptist in heritage, George Fox and Portland Seminary reflect Evangelical Friends convictions with a peace-church emphasis, Bushnell is Restoration Movement, Warner Pacific is Church of God (Anderson), and Mount Angel and the University of Portland are Roman Catholic. Read the doctrinal statement in full and confirm your denomination recognizes the school for ordination before you enroll.
3. Format and life stage
Traditional undergraduate: Multnomah, Corban, George Fox, Bushnell, University of Portland.
Working adults: Warner Pacific's adult degree program, Corban Online, and Bushnell's completion tracks.
Bivocational and current ministers: Western Seminary's online M.A. tracks and Portland Seminary's low-residency cohorts.
Chaplaincy candidates: Western Seminary and Portland Seminary offer ATS M.Div. degrees; CPE residencies are available through Portland-area hospital systems.
Catholic seminarians: Mount Angel, with diocesan sponsorship.
Cost and financial aid for Oregon Bible students
Every accredited school in this guide participates in federal student aid. Start with the FAFSA — or the ORSAA if you are undocumented — then check the Oregon Opportunity Grant, the state's largest need-based program, which is usable at eligible in-state private nonprofit colleges including Multnomah, Corban, George Fox, Bushnell, Warner Pacific, and the University of Portland. The Oregon Promise covers community college tuition, and many students use it for general-education credits before transferring into a Bible degree — a strategy that can cut the cost of a bachelor's roughly in half.
Denominational aid matters here too: Baptist churches often match Corban scholarships, Evangelical Friends congregations support George Fox students, and Catholic dioceses fully sponsor Mount Angel seminarians. Ask your church about matching funds before you assume a school is out of reach.
Multnomah University in Portland is Oregon's flagship Bible college, requiring biblical studies coursework of every undergraduate and housing Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Corban University in Salem is the strongest Baptist-heritage option, George Fox University in Newberg is the largest Christian university in the state with a Quaker (Evangelical Friends) heritage, and Bushnell University in Eugene serves the Christian Church/Churches of Christ tradition.
Does Oregon have a seminary?
Yes — Oregon is unusually strong in graduate theological education for its size. Western Seminary and Multnomah Biblical Seminary are both in Portland, Portland Seminary (part of George Fox) is in Portland and Newberg, and Mount Angel Seminary in Saint Benedict is one of the oldest Catholic seminaries in the western United States. Western, Portland Seminary, and Mount Angel are all ATS-accredited.
Is Multnomah University still open?
Yes. Multnomah University consolidated programs and restructured in the 2020s, sharpening its focus on biblical studies, ministry, counseling, and its seminary. It continues to enroll undergraduates and graduate students in Portland and to grant regionally accredited degrees through NWCCU.
Can I use the Oregon Opportunity Grant at a Bible college?
Yes. The Oregon Opportunity Grant, the state's largest need-based aid program, can be used at eligible in-state private nonprofit institutions including Multnomah, Corban, George Fox, Bushnell, Warner Pacific, and the University of Portland. Eligibility begins with the FAFSA or ORSAA. The Oregon Promise covers community college tuition, which many students use for general-education credits before transferring into a Bible degree.
What is the cheapest Bible college in Oregon?
Portland Bible College charges far less than the accredited private universities, though it is a church-based school rather than a regionally accredited one — verify credit transfer before enrolling. Among accredited institutions, Warner Pacific University and Corban University generally post the lowest published undergraduate tuition, and Corban's online degree-completion track lowers cost further for working adults.
Are there online Bible degrees from Oregon schools?
Yes. Corban University offers online undergraduate and graduate ministry and leadership degrees, Multnomah delivers online and hybrid biblical studies and counseling programs, Western Seminary runs fully online M.A. and hybrid M.Div. tracks, and Portland Seminary at George Fox is built around low-residency cohorts including its Doctor of Ministry.
What denominations are represented among Oregon Bible schools?
Oregon's schools are notably varied: Multnomah is interdenominational evangelical, Corban Baptist in heritage, George Fox and Portland Seminary Evangelical Friends (Quaker), Bushnell Christian Church/Churches of Christ, Warner Pacific Church of God (Anderson), Mount Angel and the University of Portland Roman Catholic, and Portland Bible College charismatic/City Bible Church.
How much does Bible school cost in Oregon?
Published undergraduate tuition at Oregon's accredited Christian universities runs roughly $28,000–$50,000 before aid, with Warner Pacific and Corban at the lower end and George Fox and the University of Portland at the higher end. Nearly every student pays well below sticker after institutional grants and the Oregon Opportunity Grant. Graduate seminary tuition is priced per credit and is generally lower per year than undergraduate study.
