Typical 2026 tuition ranges

Costs vary widely by school and denomination. Rough ranges per credit hour and total program:

  • Associate in Biblical Studies: $300–$550 / credit • ~$20,000–$35,000 total
  • Bachelor's in Theology / Bible: $400–$1,200 / credit • ~$50,000–$140,000 total
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv): $500–$900 / credit • ~$45,000–$80,000 total (72–90 credits)
  • MA in Theology / MTS: $500–$900 / credit • ~$30,000–$55,000 total (48–60 credits)
  • Doctor of Ministry (DMin): $600–$1,000 / credit • ~$25,000–$40,000 total
  • PhD / ThD in Theology: typically fully funded at top research programs; unfunded programs can exceed $80,000.

Denominational discounts

Southern Baptist seminaries offer heavy tuition discounts (sometimes 50%+) to members of SBC churches. PCA, Free Methodist, C&MA, and Assemblies of God schools all have similar patterns.

Ways to lower the bill

  • Denominational scholarships and matching grants
  • Employer / church tuition assistance
  • FAFSA for regionally-accredited schools (federal loans, sometimes Pell)
  • Starting at a community college and transferring in general credits
  • Choosing a shorter MA over an MDiv when ordination doesn't require the MDiv
